ACCC Wine Grape Market Study
A year after commencing its Market Study into the wine sector, the ACCC released its final report on 24 September. The report presents a mixed bag of recommendations for grape growers and winemakers. For example, recommendations relating to quality assessments and contract terms are broadly supported as sensible and practical things to pursue, other recommendations, such as those relating to payment terms, would likely cause serious problems for both grape growers and winemakers if implemented.
As noted in our recent media release we are now focusing on considering the recommendations in detail, and working with members to consider what we can implement immediately, and what requires more work. A major part of this process is considering ways to strengthen and modernise the Wine Industry Code of Conduct. Australian Grape & Wine is leading a comprehensive review of The Code, and we are confident this process will address a number of the ACCC’s recommendations, while more importantly, fostering stronger commercial relationships along the supply chain.
We encourage you to read the ACCC’s report and contact us if you have any questions.
