Codex Committee on Food Labelling
As reported in previous member news Codex Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL) is preparing a paper for their next meeting (CCFL48) on alcohol labelling being led by the World Health Organization (WHO).
A Circular Letter (CL) drafted by WHO CL 2024/13-FL was sent to Codex member countries for comment to support the development of this paper. The CL contained some rather concerning language and is clearly seeking to progress the development of Codex standards related to alcohol labelling which may have broader implications for alcohol.
Australian Grape & Wine has provided a on the CL on behalf of the grape and wine sector to our Australian Codex Representative from the Department Of Health and Aged Care. We will continue to monitor and respond to this issue as it is progresses.
