Red Blotch Virus

Australian Grape & Wine has approached US grape virus expert Marc Fuchs to present to key decision-makers in Government and industry on the seriousness of grapevine red blotch virus. The disease is known to lower vine vigour and yield, reduce fruit quality and negatively affect wine composition, resulting in reported losses of up to USD170,000 per acre over the lifespan of a vineyard. Drawing on his extensive experience working with growers he will share insights into how this disease is managed in other parts of the world where the virus is endemic.  Marc’s evidence will assist industry and Government to understand the potential seriousness of the virus so as to inform a decision on future management.
