Government Announces Tax Relief, but More Support Needed

The Albanese Government’s decision to increase the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) producer rebate to $400,000 and enhance Austrade’s support for wine exporters is a welcome step for the sector. However, broader action is needed to address ongoing challenges, particularly the oversupply of red wine, which continues to impact grape and wine prices.

Australian Grape & Wine (AGW) has outlined key priorities in its Pre-Budget Submission to help drive recovery, including:

  • $78 million for an export market stimulus to boost global sales and ease oversupply.
  • $30 million in sustainability support to prevent vineyard abandonment and protect long-term land values.
  • $20 million for a domestic marketing campaign to strengthen regional economies and increase wine tourism.

AGW is urging the Government to prioritise these investments in the 2025 Budget to secure the sector’s long-term viability.
