This research, led by Charles Sturt University and UNSW seeks to explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in the Australian wine sector.

A result of the persistent work of our Diversity Equality & Inclusion Committee to bring this issue to the forefront, this study aligns with Australian Grape & Wine and Wine Australia’s commitment, as outlined in the One Grape & Wine Sector Plan, to improve diversity and leadership while helping attract and retain skilled talent.

The One Grape & Wine Sector Plan highlights the importance of gender equality in shaping the future of Australia’s wine sector.

Charles Sturt University and UNSW are seeking women with experience in winemaking, viticulture, marketing, retail, and leadership roles to share insights through a 60-minute online focus group.

Gender equality is key to attracting and retaining talent in the wine sector, a focus of the One Grape & Wine Sector Plan by Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine

Wine Australia’s research team, led by Charles Sturt University and UNSW, is studying gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in the industry. They’re seeking insights from women in winemaking, viticulture, marketing, and leadership roles to help shape practical strategies for a more inclusive future.

Participate in an important study on gender equality, diversity and inclusion in the wine sector

Women currently or previously employed in wine and grape industry occupations over the past 10 years are being invited to take part in a Wine Australia-funded study aimed at gaining deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities related to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion within the Australian wine sector.

A result of the persistent work of our Diversity Equality & Inclusion Committee to bring this issue to the forefront, the study delivers on Australian Grape & Wine and Wine Australia’s commitments in the One Grape & Wine Sector Plan released in August to improve diversity and inclusion in the sector and in leadership and attract and retain skilled workers.

Expressions of interest to be involved in the study should be received by the research team from Charles Sturt University and UNSW by no later than 31 October 2024.

On 23 August 2024, Australian Grape & Wine welcomed the announcement of an independent impact analysis of the grape and wine industry, to be conducted by Dr. Craig Emerson. The impact analysis will examine regulatory options concerning fair trading, competitive relationships, contracting practices and risk allocation across the wine and grape market, including relationships with retailers.

Fair trading and equitable relationships between all stakeholders are essential for the health and sustainability of the Australian wine sector. This impact analysis, led by Dr. Craig Emerson, will provide a valuable assessment of how we can improve these dynamics, ensuring that the industry remains competitive and fair for everyone involved.

A 'Have your say' submission process is now open and we encourage all participants of the Australian grape and wine sector to lodge a submission for this very important analysis of our sector.
